If you follow the ai no kusabi tag on Tumblr, you have likely noticed detailed text posts about the series popping up on the feed every week or so. Earlier this year, neonplatina started a project to assemble, organize, and bring AnK lore under the spotlight—and it's been a fruitful season ever since! :)

Using self-explanatory tags, this blog sets out to share detailed canon information about the characters, locations, and world of Ai no Kusabi. And for a corresponding archive of all things AnK, neonplatina has been updating the Ai no Kusabi Wikia. (Notable entries include Mythology and Pronunciation Guide, already added to our links of interest, but don't hold out on exploring the rest!)

Considering we have very few info sites about the series active into the 2020s, this effort is particularly commendable. And with that, go give the wikia and blog some love to celebrate the addition of this wonderful library of AnK lore!

The Spotlight Series was conceived with intention to illuminate and celebrate the amazing contributions of members of our community in making art, scanning and uploading contents such as various novel editions and doujinshi, translating etc. Through the Spotlight Series, we get to know some of our fellow fans and learn more about what they do and how they experience fandom.

For this first edition of the revamped Spotlight Series, I will be chatting with KaiKold—a familiar name in fandom thanks to her tireless efforts to bring us closer to the kusabi hype of the 90s.

Ai no Kusabi has 5 side stories, some multi-chaptered, and a prequel novel titled Midnight Illusion.
They have all been translated into English; Midnight Illusion is a work in progress.

“Wound” (傷)

The members of Bison celebrate a victory over a rival gang, but Riki remains haunted by his first fateful encounter with a Tanagura Blondie.

File-0 (ファイル –ZERO)

Chapter 1: Notification (通達)

Daryl’s perspective on the disposal of Aaron, Iason’s pet.

Chapter 2: Insolence (華飾)

Despite Raoul’s recommendations, Iason considers luring Riki in to be his pet, and reaches out to Katze to ask him to spy on Riki.

Chapter 3: Impulse (衝動)

Riki’s first time in Eos.

Chapter 4: Night of Disgrace (辱夜)

Still new to Eos and life in it, Riki bides his time until he can get to Iason. Daryl, on the other hand, is surprised to find how thorough Iason can be when it comes to his new pet.

Musk (ムス)

Following Riki’s return to Eos, he makes a discovery in its gardens.

Cal’s Sighs (キャルのためめ)

Against his better judgment, Riki becomes involved in Eos pet politics, and is subsequently moved to Apathia. In the meantime, Cal wonders what happened with his predecessor Daryl.

Now that Iason has moved Riki to Apathia, Riki is surprised to attain another privilege: the option to earn a living in the Black Market once again.

The stories are listed following a chronological order of events per Rabi’s timeline.
